I have been monitoring OAK-KOA fares for a while, looking for a trip in late July/early August time frame. I have never paid more than around $350 for a r/t ticket to Hawaii from the Bay Area (usually on AA), so I am astounded that the fares are $600+....on all carriers, not just AS. However, in the past I have always traveled either just after Labor Day, or in May, so the summer season must have something to do with it.

I just applied for the BofA Visa to get the companion ticket, and am contemplating buying F tickets. If I'm going to spend a lot to get to KOA, might as well spend a bit more and fly F
