Wisely listening to the majority I will add Katz's to the itinerary and go for the pastrami and will give Dan a heads up before arriving into town in late May as it is indeed a hold over from a dinner missed in AKL. Having someone to share a pastrami sandwich would make the visit all the more enjoyable.

Thanks all for the input.
Katz's is worth a visit, irrespective of your location. Make sure you educate yourself on the technique for doing it like a local, not a tourist (e.g., ordering at the counter, instead of using waiter service; tipping the meat slicer in advance of ordering; etc.).

You're also walking distance to Keens, and if you want a NYC steakhouse experience, Keens certainly will deliver. I prefer to sit in the Pub Room, where you can order from the full menu of the more casual pub menu.

As for Eisenberg's, although I live around the corner, I've never been. But given your proximity, you certainly should check it out and get yourself a tuna on wheat or some such other classic sandwich.
