Below is a table of business class award availability on YVR-SYD return beginning tonight (April 13, 2010) and extending for 120 days. The return flights are 2 days after the outbound, as that would be the same aircraft returning directly from Sydney. If the flight did not operate on any day, then the non-operating return flight would be on the same line. (Currently the flight is scheduled to operate everyday during the selected period.)
YVR-SYD was chosen for several reasons; it is a popular route, it is a premium route, and it operates only 1 flight per day non-stop precluding any confounding by multiple routes or multiple flights. In short there is only a single option, and it is available, or it is not.
Each "cell" represents a flight, and will contain either "regular" if a normal award J seat is available, or "
Super Elite" if only Super Elite Priority J Awards are available. If neither type of J award is available, then the cell will contain the flight status by booking class (as obtained from ExpertFlyer.)
Note that while this is supposedly a "snapshot" the data was aquired over about 75 minutes. Flight inventories may have changed during that period. As well, flight inventories may (or more likely
will) have changed between the original "snapshot" and the time of reading.
Air Canada allegedly does not oversell business class, therefore if a flight is showing J>0 you can be certain that there is at least 1 open J seat available. However, IKK is only available (normally) if the flight, including economy class, is NOT sold out or oversold. Therefore, even if several J seats are showing as open, economy may still be oversold thus eliminating any IKK seats.
Economy class seat inventories are not as clear cut in most cases. If a flight is showing "J7 C5 D4 Z0 Y9 B9 M9 U9 H9 Q9 V9 W9 S8 L8 K9 N9 P8 T0 E1 R0" it is likely the flight is NOT oversold. On the other hand, if a flight is showing "J9 C8 D2 Z0 Y1 B1 M1 U0 H0 Q0 V0 W0 S0 L0 K0 N0 P0 T0 E0 R0" it is almost certainly oversold in economy. However, flights showing data such as "J9 C9 D6 Z2 Y9 B9 M9 U9 H9 Q1 V0 W0 S0 L0 K1 N0 P0 T0 E0 R0" are indeterminate. It is not possible to know if the flight is oversold in economy, or not.
