Why not use a CX 'Y' award out of Canada since there are always specials from there (from as low as 55K if memory doesn't fail me) and then use web specials (which are dirt cheap, under $200 for your ITN) on QF or Virgin while Down Under? 1W awards require always higher miles than normal airline awards. This way you'll save your valuable miles for future use.
