Certainly, this is absolutly fantastic, and of course I'm not complaining, but still wondering if this is "normal"

yes, this is normal. When you qualify for elite status, you qualify for the current year, and the upcoming year. Thus:

- Qualify in 2009 = Current year (2009) + Upcoming year (2010)

And then the elite year ends in March of the next year, thus March 2011.
