I really wonder why these items are not better managed. Instead of confiscating them permanently, can't they be added as checked baggage? I know this will create some additional work for the airlines but there seems to be some precedents for this. I read elsewhere that Air India was seizing all batteries and returning them after the flight. They were concerned that batteries could be used as part of a detonator.
