The only carry-on I ever take is the Targus laptop bag. Usual contents are:

-Laptop and related accessories
-DVD's
-MP3 Player & earphones
-Cell Phones & Pagers
-Medications
-Snacks
-Photography & Video Equip.
-Pens & Daily planner

Everything else gets checked.
