Yes, companies are very short-term focused, but I would argue that is based on pressure coming from investors and stock markets. The bonus structures reflect this.
You could pretty much rename this thread to include the name of most major companies across all industries. That's the way business operates today. To try to create tenuous links to the cabin crew dispute is just gutter journalism at its best (hence the quotes quotes from the Daily Mail, Mirror and The Times!).
An interesting view . What are your thoughts on these type of bonus schemes paying out just because the World stock markets rises?
I think the journalistic perspective was that BA is trying to save every penny but can still afford these bonus schemes in addition to huge salaries.
Maybe the BA people who could benefit from this scheme should sacrifice more of their salary and rely on the bonus.
If someone's on £450k basic shouldn't they 'perform' anyway?
The diatribes on FT against CC earning £29k including all their allowances

and in case you missed it, BA staff on £11k basic (in some instances claiming family credits)...I'd better repeat it £11,000 !
How the hell do you motivate your staff, when they see you've got your nose so firmly in the trough ?
Where's the sacrifice to save BA, coming from in their top team?
