My recommended approach if you stay more than one day and can swing it is to book the first day as an award stay, then the next day(s) with the discount. You get a "stay", you would possibly get an upgrade or whatever amenity you choose, then you get a discounted rate for the remaining part of your stay. They often will not require you to move when you do this.
