I occasionally travel w/my BF who technically is not my spouse. Never had a problem w/anyone asking about him. But then I am like davef139, I usually forget to change the auto fill (which is set at 1). The only time I am very careful is when it is an inclusive rate since my guest will otherwise no be allowed to have whatever is included.
I never even think to switch to 2 people instead of just me. This became an issue in January with a friend, no big deal though, the manager kindly changed my breakfast from 1 to 2 at a HGI.
