For the first time yesterday, going out from OGG (OGG to HNL on Hawaiian then on to ORD and DCA via UA metal, all on a United ticked and all flights with UA numbers), Hawaiian insisted on charging a checked baggage fee. And by their rules, not United's.

I you buy a ticked from UA for OGG to whereever and all flights are UA flight numbers on a UA ticket (even if originateing on HA metal), do baggage fees REALLY apply?? (1K and 3 2Ps).

I won't even vent on the 1 hour 20 minute wait at the check-in counter at hawaiian.....
Yes, When you start a trip with HA that has the next leg with UA to or from Hawaii with UA status you play by HA rules.

As a 1K if you call 1K reservations, rarely, you can ask to be put on the United flight from your island etc, asking to waive the change fee. Worked for me a couple of times, even received 1st class. Helps if they need space on the flights you booked.
