I frequently fly to and from the islands via one of the neighbor islands, usually Kahalui. If you go into OGG (say DC, to LA to HNL to OGG with the last leg being a Hawaiian flight), no problem. The hawaiian flight usually has a United flight number. For the first time yesterday, going out from OGG (OGG to HNL on Hawaiian then on to ORD and DCA via UA metal, all on a United ticked and all flights with UA numbers), Hawaiian insisted on charging a checked baggage fee. And by their rules, not United's.

I you buy a ticked from UA for OGG to whereever and all flights are UA flight numbers on a UA ticket (even if originateing on HA metal), do baggage fees REALLY apply?? (1K and 3 2Ps).

I won't even vent on the 1 hour 20 minute wait at the check-in counter at hawaiian.....
