You still have fees on Schwab and CapOne, just not ones imposed by the issuer and then disclosed. Booking and paying on most travel websites eliminates that problem entirely because the tickets are purchased domestically. If the tickets are issued by the carrier, some, including Etihad, apparently, process in a single global location so generate these fees. I have never been charged these fees on Orbitz, which is one reason I use them for non-US purchases when using a US-issued card.
