Yes, total flying distance, including connections.
Example: if you want to get from HEL to LAX and back to HEL, the distance is calculated i.e. HEL-LHR-LAX-JFK-HEL, even if you don't (want to) stop in LHR and/or JFK.
OW awards are not good for simple rtn trips, they are more useful for longer trips with multiple destinations/stopovers so I would imagine there's really few 0-6000km OW awards claimed via AY Plus, or any other OW program, for that matter.
