Depends on whether the combined business see them as a cost centre or integral part of the brand proposition. The former? They get merged quickly. The latter - I can see them running seperately for quite a while.
If a merger meant I could use my 241, GGL redemption and GUV2 for IB's flights to Central and South America I would be very happy. I've plans for BOG, CCS, PTY and SCL amongst others in the region and getting to all of those using BA or AA is a pain.
