The last time I flew HKG-NY we flew a rather southerly route, arriving N Amer in the vicinity of SEA/YVR. The flight map indicated a 10,000 mile distance from origin to destination, which is 25% longer than the ~8,000 mile great circle routing. But presumably very strong tailwinds over the Pacific more than made up for that.
