Don't forget to consider the miles you'd earn for buying the ticket: AUS-IAH-FLL is 2930 miles RT, and as a Plat you'd get 5860. So the Mileage ticket would really "cost" 55860 miles plus $10.

If that were the only 2 options, I'd say use the miles because it's a value of > 1.5 cents per mile, unless you were trying to save for an int'l BF ticket. However, since AUS-FLL isn't direct and that's VERY expensive, I'd definitely look at the other options and see if you can't go US through CLT, AA through DFW, Southwest through lots of connection points, or even going into PBI (55 mins away) or MIA (35 mins away).
