As long as you have the physical gift card and the gift card has not been spent, then SWA is likely going to send you a new gift card per most state laws regarding gift card balances or somehow give you the balance of the card.

I have also found gift cards cannot be used to renew an expired reward. I don't know why, but such is the case.
