Review: Eagle Creek HC2 Hovercraft Duffle 30

I posted a while ago looking for a lightweight wheelie duffle bag and ended up buying an EC hovercraft duffle.

I've just returned from a trip to Australia & NZ and thought I would post my thoughts about the bag.

My first thoughts on the bag is that it feels and looks really well made. The main zip is big and sturdy but looks good. The bag doesn't have any side handles, but it has a small handle on top that is well padded and it is easy to lift the bag using this handle. I really like this handle and everytime I picked up the bag using it, it reinforced to me how nicely made the bag felt.

The bag is not as deep as the one I was replacing and that had me worried in terms of fitting everything in. However it's also good as I can't pack as much

Coming back from Australia I had 15.5kg for a 3 week trip and the bag was managable and not full. This makes it a nice option to take on the budget European flights where the cheked luggage limit is 15kg.

The wheels on the bag are a good size and it is a pleasure to pull the bag along. The telescopic handle is also sturdy and has a good rubber grip. The bag will stand up alone and not fall over which is a big plus over my old wheelie duffle. There are compression straps on both the inside and outside of the bag. The straps outside the bag are a good idea if you are using the bag and it's not full.

i love the shoe pocket that is built into the lid of the bag. the other pocket is dubbed a 'dirty laundry chute' however I used this to store battery chargers, usb cords, adapters etc. There is no mesh pocket inside the main part of the bag to store these types of things which is the one thing I really miss from my old bag.

The only other negative I have is that with the two pockets on the top, it is only possible to lock one of them and therefore I'd be very cautious about storing anything of value in the pockets on the lid.

Overall I really love my new Eagle creek bag and while it was expensive it was worth it and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a lightweight wheelie duffle.
