Yes, the front desk greeting is about 1/2 of the time. My name pronunciation is not intuitive so they usually get it wrong, but that is not their fault. I like it. It is nice. Particularly if the context fits, as in "Welcome back!" when I really have stayed before.
What I really appreciate, and it happens in about 10-20% of stays, is the nice personal letter to me and signed by the manager that is in the room when I check in. This is thoughtful as it shows forethought and planning. It also introduces me, albeit indirectly, to the manager. This is very good customer service for a Gold level. For one stay I found a hand-written note, I do wish I could remember the hotel. Very nice. Very professional.
