One of the Hilton Insiders discussed the Welcome Back message when yo have never stayed in the hotel a while ago. I'm too lazy to look and find the thread, but they said it refers to welcoming you back to the Hilton Hotel chain, not to that particular hotel.

It was in reference to one particular property where they would say "Welcome back Mr Cordelli, have you stayed with us before?" which I thought was pretty funny.
