I think that what most people like this jerk forget is that having elite status is not just earned, but it is also a privilege. He has been given an opportunity above most flyers to travel in style WHEN AVAILABLE. Those people who are above this guy in the chain are those who are willing to pay the actual fare to fly in that cabin or even those willing to spend A LOT of miles to get an AAward seat, or those that are smart enough to request their upgrades in due time!
I love being Gold, and can't wait to make Platinum. I take advantage of everything AA Gold has to offer, within reason. I made my request for an upgrade a week ago for a flight in a month. This put me in front of all other golds who requested upgrades.
If he were such a "good customer" he would understand the rules and learn to respect the privileges he has been given.
Just because he is EXP doesnt necessarily mean he has given a ton of business to AA.
As these boards have shown, it is very possible to make Gold, Plat, or even EXP without spending a fortune, by buying smart and routing the right way.
I wonder what comments the Agent placed in his profile!
