A very good friend of mine has a child with severe ADHD. They deal with it by keeping him out of situations that they know he will not be able to deal with, like long flights! They plan their vacations around taking only flights that are short enough for him to cope with, or by driving with frequent stops along the route. He's as happy as a clam if they take a short drive to Cape Cod and he can work off his excess energy having a wonderful time - no need for 8 hour flights of misery for him and the rest of the family.
Never thought I'd be defending parents here but there you go. It can happen that parents need to move halfway across the world. No way to leave that annoying brad behind now, is there? What I mean is: it can happen that you have a hard to control kid on board. As long as the parents make an effort and display some awareness of the discomfort this causes other pax I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
