I've always assumed that "greeted by name" meant addressing me properly, as in, "Welcome to the Hilton, Mr. Bimmer." It's an important bit of personalization.
Now, I do find it a bit odd that many FD employees say, "Welcome back, Mr. Bimmer," when I've never stayed at their hotel before. It seems that Hilton (and other chains) train employees to do that, though I'm not sure why.
