An anonymous source has told me the following: the apparent increase in mileage required for upgrades from business class to first class was an error. It appears that the columns in the award chart which read "from full fare econo" and "from business class/most discount econo" were incorrect. Business class should be in the first column meaning the award levels are unchanged from before. If there were changes, then there would be a date by which awards under the old mileage structure must be claimed. No such date is in the res system.

IF this typo story is true, then the newsletter insert was appallingly poorly proofread--- the main body of text clearly says people can claim from either the new or current AA award structure through 4/30/02, at which time the existing award chart (including off-peak AAnytime and 2-ticket awards) dies and cannot be claimed.
IF an old 10EE is identical to the new 10FF, why waste all that effort recoding the award?
Color me hopeful but remaining suspicious!
