I know it's gotten a lot safer lately. But 25 years ago, when I first went, I definitely felt unsafe walking through Harlem, from Times Square to 34th St., and at the World Trade Center Subway station. I'm fine in all of those places nowadays.
Indeed. In the early 80s, I didn't feel safe anywhere in Manhattan at night. 20 years later, my teenagers would be out late at night and I was never worried. Big change for which I give Giuliani full credit, much as I dislike the man. And it's Fort

I ride my bike on the Greenway 3-4 times a week. You're probably one of those runners that I'm almost always running over.
