I think it's been proven the most people sleep better when it's cooler, not by increasing the temperature. I have a tough time sleeping on planes, and with it hot it's almost impossible. I haven't had a problem with Alaska raising the temperature though.
As for blankets, I think they should do what I think they should do with food. Give the ability to buy them online beforehand and be delivered to your seat.
I too am a fan of the cooler temps ^ and typically sleep when at a hotel with just a sheet on top, and AC cranked up (when it's warm outside)
It does help for sleeping when the seat is near-flat and one is given a large pillow (and even a comforter) I will have to say
