this in my personal expericence, on serveral interational flights the cabin temp. decreases to wake up the passengers. i can not sleep when the heat is cranked up, but i see many people sleeping.

I think it's been proven the most people sleep better when it's cooler, not by increasing the temperature. I have a tough time sleeping on planes, and with it hot it's almost impossible. I haven't had a problem with Alaska raising the temperature though.
As for blankets, I think they should do what I think they should do with food. Give the ability to buy them online beforehand and be delivered to your seat.
