Even though I think the Hermes bags price is extravagant, I can't fault their apparent quality.

On the other hand, I can definitely fault the JV leathergoods quality. I don't know where that $1500 went to.

I would call JV expensive and not worth it.

I prefer expensive + worth it like SAB, Valextra, Delvaux, Papworth, Filson, etc. Even look at Ralph Lauren leathergoods from recent years, real top notch.

I can't understand the logic that you would prefer a $1500 JV bag over a $1500 SAB bag because you are afraid of scuffs, and the JV bags are pre-scuffed? Can't see it...

In the end, it's all personal preference, of course.
