Thanks for the additional info. I just stayed at the Chicago Blackstone this weekend and asked for a view room upgrade facing the lake, the clerk mentioned I had to pay for the difference and I was upgraded to the CL floor. If only I knew this last week.
I think the Blackstone is a "special case". On 3 stays there with DH who is a Plat Premier we have been asked to pay for an upgrade to a view room.
On the other hand this weekend at the REN LAS we were offered either the CL level or a suite . Chose the suite
