Just came back after staying 2 nights at the hotel. Was upgraded to a balcony room at the Lakeside cottage at first, but we were greeted by hordes of flies in the restroom. Ewww.....
We didn't mind at first, but after killing 3 only to find 5 more (as if they multiplied), we decided to ask for a room change. We requested a room in the main hotel rather than the cottages, because the cottages were located on the other side of the road, and when it's 20F and snowing outside, it became rather inconvenient to walk to the casino/hotel. So if you don't gamble and prefer a quiet atmosphere, stay at the cottage. Otherwise, I recommend the main hotel as it is closer to casino and RC.
We were switched to a room on the second floor overlooking the spa and pool. The room itself was fairly standard so no complaint there. The RC also offered delicious food. Smoked salmon, bagel, pastry etc for breakfast, and grilled vegetables and salad for dinner. I just wish there were some hot dishes for dinner though. Someone mentioned crabs but did not see that!
The casino was small but cozy. I am glad that they offered $10 BJ even on Saturday nights. Many popular casinos in Vegas no longer do that. One of the dealers, Paul, was especially friendly and those of us who sat at his table really enjoyed his company (the guy ended up getting near $100 worth of tip after just two shoes!). Didn't try the slots, but my sister said they were rather tight as mentioned by some other FTs.
As for ski resort access, it's a 25~30 min drive to Northstar and a 40~45 min drive to Squaw Valley. The hotel DOES offer shuttle to both resorts that leaves at 8am (I think). Discounted ski lift tickets can also be purchased at the concierge.
Overall, a good stay and I would definitely come back again for the next ski season.
