It doesn't matter. It's about convenience. You provide a
sufficiently large market with the convenience of serving their local airport. And SNA-LAX are much closer to each other than 84 miles. Air Canada flies from YYZ to SAN, SNA and LAX during the summer. That SAN and LAX are about the same distance apart as HKG and CAN - and linked by a very good Interstate - doesn't mean AC expects people in SAN to drive to LAX to fly to eastern Canada.
