Call the gold desk. I was short on my renewal for platinum last year and they gave it to me. If you tell them you were suppose to fly the week of Sept 11, which would have given you enough miles, it is hard to believe that they wouldn't be sympathetic. Try a few times if you have to. It is who you get. I would do that before scheduling another short flight.
