Am I reading you correctly that you have a total 3-4 weeks for travel, and 1-2 weeks of that will be spent in Britain? In that case, you may need to pare down your list of cities even more.

Also, clarify your thoughts on whether this is a TRIP or a VACATION. If it's a TRIP then packing it full may suit you. If it's supposed to be a VACATION...honestly, I would pick out two or three places you really want to see, and spend a week in each (plus your time in Britain). Actually, I might do that anyway. I understand that you can save money sometimes by renting out a place for a week v. paying nightly rates for hotels.

There are many easy side trips to do in Europe via rail if you don't want to spend the whole time in that one specific city. Plus, I spent a semester (3 months) in London and still don't feel like I've seen the whole city!!
