I had stopped carrying the AAA card too for similar reason - and nearly got charged higher rate when I didn't have it w/ me at a UK hotel. I managed to convince them I was a member & the only reason I didn't have it was because properties hadn't requested it before (ever), and they finally relented. But ever since then, if I'm using a rate that requires a membership card I put the card in my wallet for that trip/stay. The inconvience of having my wallet be a centimeter wider vs having to pay higher rate means I deal w/ a slightly bigger wallet
