There is a cycle of when the Northern Lights activity is "high" and when it is "low." Generally the past few years it has been "low." But that is a generalization. There have been reports of excellent Northern Lights sightings over the past two weeks in/near Fairbanks. And next Monday/Tuesday have a good forecast:
