The biggest reason why I fly SWA ~100 segments/year is the ability to cancel my flights without being penalized (i.e. getting my money back in the form of travel funds); from my standpoint this is worth at least 100x than United's 'economy plus'.

Disclaimer: I'm a CA commuter ... I agree with the OP that it's painful to fly to many destinations on the East Coast with SWA
