GoGo/AirCell the provider used by UA, UA, AA, AC, AT, DL, VA, ...
uses ground towers for linkage (and for now just continental U.S). Not an approach that works well for TPAC, TATL, polar, ... flights
Other approaches exist, such as the satellite-based system that
WN is using. Interesting that WN is using a potentially trans-oceanic system but does not fly the much over water.
