In many states it's my understanding that it's illegal to collect "rent" on the same room twice.

I'm guessing they assumed you checked in to take advantage of the current promo and had no intention of ever returning to the hotel. Not a decision they should be making, but I can see it happening. Do you know if you've been charged?
