Only you can make the decision on whether its worth your time, but I have found that the AAA rates are often close to or identical to the prepaid rates, so I pick AAA and pay with COSTCO certs.
Gx promos – I understand that if I choose a property with a promo that I shouldn’t mention it until check-in.
No, sometimes you can can add it right when you're making the reservation. Sometimes that doesn't work, and I then contact Hyatt via the website and have them add it. But you can also have it added when you check in.
Points/miles - If I select a Gx promo, can this bonus be in miles? I thought I specified somewhere the choice of earning miles in my account, but I can’t find it in my profile. I was looking to get AA miles (since I’m not 100% sure how much I’ll be using Hyatt yet), but I could also take US, BA, CO or, if exceptional, DL miles.
You don't get Gx points if you choose miles for your stay.
There are supposedly Ax promos for airline bonus points, but I have not seen them myself. This page lists the available bonuses:
