It's because of the code share..perhaps when you booked this in Jan/Feb you were ticketed with the UA flight number instead of a CO code share flight number? That could make the difference..and it is possible for CO to book it either way.
It's a valuable lesson.. if you care about upgrading NEVER book code shares (at least not on United metal because they are not code share friendly).
You are correct. I called CO(within 24 hrs of Booking) to see about a non-code share ticket, and the price went from $1,200 to $3,000. I will try to upgrade at the gate.
I think UA's computer got wise to my cheap CO fair and easy SWU and made a policy change, can't blame them in todays environment!
