This happened all four times we used it so I was wondering if there was a set system.

I asked about the places to go, because we only have one afternoon to explore. I went to Japan town and that was a bust, because there didn't seem to be anything to do there. We went to Pier 39 and Ghirardelli Square.. and then nothing. haha. I hope to make this time more eventful, and I'm going with a different group of friends.
The 2nd conductor collects fares. He or she might be blocked by passengers and/or might not notice the new passengers and/or busy and unable to collect fares from the new passengers. IME the good ones make sure to come around and collect.

As for things to do in S.F., if you give an indication of what types of things you're into, I am sure we can provide many suggestions right up your alley. There is a lot to do in S.F. But different strokes for different folks . . . .
