I don't believe they will prevent you from booking it. But to be sure, log out of delta.com and don't put your frequent flyer number on the new reservation until after you cancel the original one. My only real experience with this is on AA, and they will block you from making a duplicate booking with the same FF number. If you leave the FF number blank they will let you double book.
