Inverness to London, with a Kid?

Hi Everyone,

My wife, 2 year-old toddler and I are trying to determine the best way to get from Inverness to London, in mid-May, i.e. fly, train, or drive.

We'll likely have three suitcases, plus a stroller, car seat and assorted carry-on.

My wife is Star-Alliance gold, I have no status.

In terms of flying, easyJet has a non-stop from Inverness to Gatwick, with various a la carte options for luggage and family pre-boarding, but I'm worried we'll still run afoul of their restrictive rules with all our 'stuff' and wind up paying lots of surcharges? It looks like BA also files non-stop, but of course *G does us no favours there.

It looks like the (overnight?) train is another option, but there seems to be a myriad of sites with various options and prices. What's the best choice for sleeper train for a family with a toddler? Is there a good web site that lays out the options?

We could also drive, but this is the least appealing as we'd need to break the trip up over a couple of days due to the kid....

Thanks in advance.
