So to avoid the annual fee I was looking at transferring my MBNA Alaska Platinum MC to the new MBNA Travel Rewards program (apparently the annual fee for the Travel Rewards card is permanently waived). The MBNA CSR said MBNA would take all the MP miles accumulated over the last three years out of my MP account and transfer them to the new travel rewards account. I asked three times and he said this was mandatory. Can this be?? How can MBNA retroactively take miles out of a MP account once they have posted?

Besides loosing the companion ticket what are the other downsides to transferring to the MBNA Travel Rewards program? I imagine you can't mix airline partners in one flight reward.
