I made 2 trips from IAD to BOM in the past 2 years with my infant son who was 10 mos and 19 mos during the respective trips. Usually people in Coach are not very obnoxious regarding children. Also bassinets are available on DL flights - I think the number is about 6 in C (do not know number in F or B).

8 mos is a good age for basinnets I would say.
