So is there a rule, and it is sometimes broken, or is the interpretation of "4 days/7 days in advance" just arbitrary?

This would be the most logical rule, but does it really exist? I cannot find any documentation on the certificates, the SE benefits guide, or the Aeroplan site that specify what their definition is of "within 4 days/7 days."
