Weird SPG Platinum upgrade policy at Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel & Towers
Checked in at Sheraton Hong Kong yesterday. Got an upgrade to an Executive Suite which is quite nice to be honest.
Asking for a Harbor view room/suite this morning they told me that yes, I could get Harbor view, but no, not a suite. The hotel does have suites with harbor view though and there seem to be a couple available for the entire length of my stay. They basically told me that I have the option to choose between an Executive Suite (no harbor view) or a regular Harbor View room.
I do understand that as a Platinum SPG you will only be upgraded to "standard suites". But I do not really understand how that term is defined (if at all). I've been upgraded to ridiculously enormous suites (e.g. in Khao Lak, Sheraton La Caleta) before but here they seem to be a little fussy about their upgrade policy with regards to suites.
Can anyone explain the "standard suite" term? Can anyone share upgrade experiences at Sheraton Hong Kong?
(btw. since I won't spend to much time in my room I am changing to the harbor view room - I'll see how much smaller than the Exec suite this will be...)
