Is it worth me creating a household account for redemption booking?

After four years collecting BA miles, me and Mr flyingbee finally have enough miles to 'do something exciting'. It's taken a long time to get our miles because they are basically all from flying, Avis and December 2009 strike threat compensation (living in France means we can't shop at Tesco and don't have the AmEx card).

We would like to go to North America in CW, but neither of us has 200,000 miles in our accounts, but we do both have over 100,000 miles. Having looked at the advice on here, I was going to book two one-ways, so we have maximum flexibility. Plus we want to fly into one airport and out of another if I can get the flights to work.

What I don't know, is there any reason why I can't book the flight there, and Mr flyingbee the flight home? The main thing I'm thinking of is I have a gold card, but Mr flyingbee only has a silver card. Would that create any unforeseen issues, for example changes in seat availability?

Alternatively we could create a household account, but I was avoiding that unless necessary so we have maximum flexibility in the future.

Is there something I am missing? Do we each book a one-way, or do we just set up the HHA? (is HHA set-up instantaneous?)

Sorry about the questions, but I haven't redeemed miles before, so I want to be sure about what I'm doing.
