My wife, a 1K was confirmed today on UA888 from PEK to SFO in C. She was a bit delayed in her arrival to the airport but stepped up to the CS agent in the 1K line exactly one hour and five minutes before the flight was scheduled for departure. There are some critical facts missing in the above report. If your wife were checking in and talking with the CS agent one hour and five minutes prior to scheduled departure, United would not (or should not) prematurely give away a confirmed seat.
